The Bride’s Father’s Wedding Speech

Father of the bride - your Duties

Glass

As father of the bride you may have already made contributions towards this big day. However, your speech gives you the opportunity to dot the I’s and cross the T’s. Convention dictates that you culminate your speech with a toast to the Bride and Groom. However, it may be that you are not the father of the bride, that you have been especially chosen either to give the bride away, or to say a few words. We will take all these factors into consideration to make sure the content is just right for you.

How long should I speak for?

Your speech is not expected to be as long as the best man’s. 3–5 minutes is ample for a formal ceremony and will provide plenty of opportunity to ensure all bases are covered.

Finding the right tone

Your speech will normally be more profound and sincere than the best man’s – giving a few well chosen words of advise to the newlyweds for the future.

What do I need to say?

Think carefully about a special day or occasion that you would like to relate to your guests. Raid that cellar of vintage tales you have stored in your memory in order to craft a sentimental picture to share with the other guests. We will craft a sincere, optimistic and witty speech. This will normally culminate with a toast to the bride and groom.

What if I forget my speech?

You will be provided with bound prompt cards and memory joggers. You will have to complete these yourself which will help you to remember the logical progression of your speech.

And Finally....

Much time and effort has gone into preparing this big day. Enjoy it
